Our first channel chat will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2009.

This chat will occur at 4:00pm Eastern time (or New York time, if you prefer), which is 1pm Pacific time (or California time, if you prefer).

The place will be our own little IRC chat room. You can get there using any IRC client you have, or you can use our java applet. Both methods will land you at the right arrival point.

For directions, see http://chat.otherworldsandlands.com/ or click the "Chat" link on the main webpage.

Feel free to test the server by peeking in any time this week. If you're lucky, you may even see someone else there.

I thought I should point out that the main official discussions will be in channel #owl. Other channels can be formed for side/private discussions as needed, but that's where people will be gathering.

I thought the chat went pretty well. It lasted from around 3pm (people showed up early) to almost 9pm. At the peak we had 13 people from the US and UK.

Aww drat. And here I was going to plug my pre-existing IRC network (consisting only of three servers). A couple of details I'm missing (that I may need for my chat client): What port do you connect to your IRC Server with?

The usual ports are available (6666 through 6669).

If we're making these chats a regular occurrence, what do people think about days and times? Are weekends or week days better? Some of each? We have people in the UK as well as the US (so far), so too late in the evenings could be bad.

Don't forget the people in California, Hawaii, New Zealand and Australia, just to focus on English speakers. I know a fan in Singapore who would probably want to subscribe. For them, the later the better.

I'd suggest a mid-week evening, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, plus a weekend earlier in the day, Saturday or Sunday. Do two a week (one of each) and move them around so different people with different schedules can participate.

jslove makes sense here. And I would add the UK and Germany to the list, given the number of English-spoeaking fen in those countries (not to mention the huge American presence at Ramstein).
